Welcome New Readers

Well, it looks like I have a couple of new readers. Thanks to Cary from List of the Day for adding me to his friends list! For the new readers, I will explain what this blog is for me.

I had cancer twice. With that, came chemo and a stem cell transplant. A common side effect is called “Chemo brain,” where you can't remember normal every day stuff. My last entry had a few references to me not remembering, and not being very pleased with it. I still (5 years later) have trouble with my memory – mostly long term, but sometimes long term. But every once in a while, I am able to suddenly have a memory break through. That is the majority of what this blog has been for, so I can keep track of my rememberances, if you will.

I'm thrilled that other people (other than my husband and me) are reading this! I guess this means that I need to update it more often, huh? Thanks for reading!

If you have questions or anything, feel free to email me, and I also have the cancer blog, if you are interested. It doesn't get updated very often, because I take a while to remember the exact details and I have a slow poke editor for it. But enjoy!

I too am a cancer survivor. I had radiation, not chemo, but lived drifting in and out of a fog for two years - a side effect of meds/no meds & the isolation that comes with being your own nightlight. We refinanced our house - I have no memory of it at all. I was there physically, but was shocked to find out a year later that "we owe how much?" My daughter's 13th birthday - I planned it, attended, but it too is blur. Weird isn't it? It's good to be on this side of the fog.

It makes my day when you comment on my blog ( I don't have too many "strangers" posting on mine, but I think it's really neat when they do!)
I have to say, I've been by your blog a few times and tried to read your memories of your dad, but I just can't get through all of them yet. I lost my dad 7 years ago (On June 10), and it's a long story, but it's still a toughy for me.
But... I love your idea to write down the small memories of him. I found a scrapbook page that was similar, and I really want to do something like that. To remember his quirks, how he embarassed me to no end, how proud I was to be able to call that man Dad.
You sure seem to be one tough (and smart) cookie!

Tracey - I'm glad that you found me. If you don't mind me asking, what did you have? Sometimes it surprises me the random memories that I have. My mom told me the other day the my memories are slightly different from hers, but I think that is true with just about everyone. Glad to hear that you are finding your memories and working through the fog. That, I think, was the most unsettling for me. Good luck, and happy living!

Heather - I'm glad that you check mine out. I LOVE your blog! Your kids are adorable. And you just seem to say the right thing. Don't worry about reading the dad memories. It will come in time, and the small memories and the most obscure may make you upset at first, but you will learn that it's better than no memories. I have unhappy memories, too, but choose to not dwell and let the happy ones shine through. It just takes time. Good luck to you as well!
